Great Britain, Syria and NATO
2012.02.03 - 09:10:20 / web@radiorebelde.icrt.cu / Traslated by: Pedro A. Fanego Sea

Great Britain, Syria and NATO Havana, Cuba. - Great Britain and its NATO allies have launched a smear campaign of gross lies fabricated by alleged human rights activists and a deceit network that seeks to start a war against Syria.

The British government met last November with members of the opposition to Damascus that live abroad. Foreign secretary William Hague chaired the meeting that summoned members of the Syrian National Council (NSC) and the Committee of Coordination for a Democratic Change (CCDC).

If the opposition managed to overthrow Al Assad’s current government, the British minister assured that London would recognize them as a legitimate force. France also claimed to be willing to work with the hired dissidence.

The London-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory, the main source of these gross lies, receives daily reports from Syria through telephone and videotapes from the exchange channel YouTube. None of them could be verified in an independent or authenticated fashion.

The Syrian Human Rights Observatory is also working in close coordination with United States and receiving overseas funding.

With regard to UN human rights reports on the situation in Syria, it has been recently established that the one titled "Crimes against humanity" was in fact co-written by Karen Koning Abu-Zayd. He is the director of the Middle East Policy Council, a US center based in Washington, whose payroll includes Exxon employees, CIA agents and militaries.

UN report in itself does not contain any verifiable evidence and is an open invitation to the enemies of Syria to draw any image of the government in power. In this matter, the international organization already has a well-known dossier in similar situations in Iraq, Ivory Coast and more recently in Libya.

More strategies

Abdelhakim Belhaj, historical leader of Al-Qaeda in Libya and military governor of Tripoli, is now the commander of the so-called Free Syrian Army.

The field investigation conducted by Voltaire Network confirms the above statement and has collected firsthand testimonies on the attacks of armed groups. The witnesses pointed out that the Arab accent of some attackers gives them away as Iraqis, Jordanians or Libyans.

In the last few months, different Arab newspapers have reported the infiltration in Syria of 600 to 1 500 men of the Islamic Group Combatant in Libya (IGCL), re-baptized since November 2007 as Al-Qaeda in Libya.

Last November, the Libyan press reported the attempt of the Zintan militia to arrest Abdelhakim Belhaj. He used to be Osama Bin Laden’s comrade-in-arms and historical leader of Al-Qaeda in Libya and became Tripoli military governor thanks to NATO. The attempted arrest took place in Tripoli airport, when Belhaj was headed for Turkey. Later on, a number of Turkish newspapers have reported Abdelhakim Belhaj’s presence in the Turk-Syrian border.

Thus, an important accusation resurfaces again: the mercenaries formerly paid by Osama Bin Laden have never stopped serving US strategies, since the Afghanistan war in 2003 and even in the time of the September 11 attacks. By: Ana Teresa Badia
