
The former president and wring-wing candidate, Sebastían Piñera, won the second round of the presidential elections in Chile with the 99.87 % counted. He won with the 54.57 % of the votes over the left-center candidate, Alejandro Guillier who reached the 45.43% of the votes.
“Long life the difference, long life to the pluralism of ideas!” said the recently elected president.
“We shall recover our democracy and we shall reconstruct our nation after the devastating earthquake which took place on February 27th, 2010, united and against all the predictions, we found and rescued our 33 miners alive and kicking and we shall transform Chile into a developed nation, without poverty and opportunities for all.” Sebastían Piñera added.
Alejandro Guillier, on his part, asked the progressive forces to rethink about that hard defeat. He admitted his defeat before his followers.”
Alejandro Guillier was the representative of the left-wing Frente Amplio party that won position in the legislative elections that took place on November 19 th when it finished as the third political force there.
The political view of Chile changed since four weeks ago due to the electoral reform which enabled the end of the two-party system and the creation of a most diverse Parliament.
The entrepreneur, Sebastían Piñera, is the third richest person of his nation and he won in 13 out of 15 regions.
For this second electoral round, Sebastían Piñera got the support from the former ultra-conservative candidate, José Antonio Kast, who is a man that linked to the military and late general Augusto Pinochet worlds. He got almost an 8% of the votes.
There were 14.308.151 electors inside Chile and 39.137 ones overseas, who were called to vote in the recent presidential elections.
The results of those elections were quite different abroad taking into account that the Chilean residents in other nations, who had the right to vote for their first time, voted for Alejandro Guillier (71.13% before a 28.87% for Sebastían Piñera).
The Chilean Congress
Since 2018, the local senate will have 43 members due to a new electoral division which will be finally implemented in 2021.
Even though the Chile Vamos party of Sebastian Piñera increased his seats from 19 to (44.1%) in the recent legislative elections, The La Fuerza de la Mayoría party keep having more representatives with 21 seats (48.8%).
In addition, it should be taken into account that there will be a representative of the MAS party and another one of the Revolución Democrática party who will certainly have more coincidences with the aforementioned center-left coalition.
According to the 24 hours.cl webpage, Chile is the winner with 71 deputies (45.8%) in the lower house, while the La Fuerza de la Mayoría has 57 seats with (36.7%). However, the left-wing bloc is strengthened by very likely political alliances, taking into account that the Frente Amplio party has 21 seats (13.5%).
