Havana, Cuba. –Relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly held in US prisons appealed to peoples’ solidarity in a meeting with members of the Southern Cross Brigade, held in the Cuban Friendship Institute.
Olga Salanueva, Rene Gonzalez’s wife, spoke on behalf of the other relatives. She stressed that the most powerful tool in the battle for the liberation of The Five is building worldwide awareness about the injustice perpetrated against these worthy upholders of peace.
She also asked brigade members to send letters to Barack Obama, who has full capacity as a President to pardon Ramon, Rene, Gerardo, Fernando and Antonio.
The occasion was auspicious for the brigade members to sign the final declaration, where they pledged to continue fighting for the Five Heroes’ freedom. They will struggle too for the end of the blockade that United States has enforced against the largest Caribbean Island for over half a century.
Ximena Tolosa, a young girl born in Argentina, who has lived in Australia for the last 10 years made a few statements to Radio Rebelde after the meeting. She elaborated on solidarity actions supporting the 1959 socialist Revolution.
"We watch movies, go to concerts or have parties on the occasion of January 1. I believe that the most important thing we are doing for the cause is that in each of these events, information is always available, like brochures.
What I liked most is that there are postcards already prewritten. All you have to do is write down your address, name and date. They are addressed to President Obama and plead for the liberation of The Five", she ended saying. By: Abel Gonzalez
