The end of 16 Years of Injustice

The piece of news cause hugs and tears due to the happiness felt by local neighbors, friends and workmates when they knew that Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero are already at their home nation.

The solidarity has triumphed over the injustice again through a long and really hard fight which has the sweet flavor of the victory at present given they have also returned honorably.

Those 16 years of an unjust confinement could not break the convictions of Ramón, Gerardo and Antonio who returned to their nation, along with a really high sense of dignity.

When the case of the Five was known officially, a movement for solidarity began to be created in Cuba and worldwide with their mothers, wives and the children of René, Ramón, Antonio, Gerardo and Fernando, along with the demonstrations of affection and fraternity, which accompanied the five families before the violence and manipulation generated from the United States since that moment on.

The battle for the Five Cuban anti terrorist fighters lasted 16 days and the representatives from the most diverse sectors of the society in Cuba and worldwide joined it. Their homeland is currently celebrating that milestone, and the former three absent sons, have returned to complete that happiness and coming true the full freedom of René González and Fernándo González who are the first ones released after having served their unjust condemns, utterly.

In his speech addressed to the people from Cuba and the international public opinion, the President from the State Council and Ministers, the General Raúl Castro Ruz, expressed his gratitude to all who participated in the struggle for the release of the Cuban Five when he said:

“The enormous happiness of their family members and all our people, which struggled intensely in order to achieve that goal, was among the hundreds of committees and groups for the solidarity, the governments, parliaments , organizations, institutions and personalities who claimed for their release and made countless efforts to achieve it during these 16 years.”

On December 17th, 2014, and as part of a humanitarian agreement between the governments from the Unites States and Cuba, Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, Ramón Labañino Salazar and Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez were released.

Before Octuber 11th, 2011 and after serving his condemn completely, René González was released, although he was kept under a supervised freedom in Florida State.

On April 22nd, 2013, René arrived in Cuba with a permission issued by the US authorities to attempt to the funeral of his father who had passed away some days before in Havana city.

On May 3rd, 2013, the US judge Joan Lenard accepted to modify the conditions of supervised freedom of René González which would allow him to continue it in Cuba in exchange for his American citizenship.

On February 27th, 2014, Fernando González is released after having served completely his sentence and it was on February 28th that the Cuban people welcomed him warmly.

The Cuban Five are already in Cuba; therefore, their motherland celebrates with singings given the victories of its sons.
