HAVANA, CUBA.-  Maria Leon, Venezuelan Minister for Women’s Affairs, affirmed on Thursday in Caracas that the five Cuban antiterrorists incarcerated in the United States since 1998 are symbols of patriotism for the world.

Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez are serving harsh sentences for monitoring the activities of counterrevolutionary organizations in the US state of Florida, in order to prevent violent actions against Cuba.

The minister pointed out that the hearts of Venezuelans are with them and also that of President Hugo Chavez, who gave the five Cuban Heroes the Order of Liberator Simon Bolivar, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.

We’re all in favor of their release and we have made their cause our own, with the creation of the movement “A rose for The Five”, she stressed, before the beginning of the meeting in which Venezuelans and Cubans paid tribute to Cuba’s National Hero Jose Marti, on the occasion of the 157th anniversary of his birth.

Leon said that, on November 10, her country’s Parliament demanded the US government and legal authorities the immediate release of The Five.
