The most fundamental human rights of the five Cubans unfairly condemned in the United States are violated every day, and that government doesn’t put an end to this judicial absurd, declared on Friday the wives of two of them.

Adriana Perez and Elizabeth Palmeiro, wives of Gerardo Hernandez and Ramon Labañino respectively, denounced in Toronto, Canada, that the case is still silenced by the mainstream media and unknown to the international public opinion.

This is the reason why it’s important to carry out meetings like these, where the press can hear arguments first hand, and where friends can have the opportunity to know more about this cause, they asserted.

During the meeting known as “Breaking the Silence: Freedom for The Five,” the two wives thanked participants and organizers for their solidarity.

It’s a tribunal and a popular assembly, opened until Sunday at the city hall of Toronto, as part of the international campaign in support of Gerardo and Ramon, of Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez.

Attending the meeting are several personalities, like US actor Danny Glover; Lemelin Denis (president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers); British trade unionist Tony Woodley, and activists Cindy Sheehan, Alicia Jrapko and Gloria La Riva, among others, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The tribunal has the objective of spreading the irregularities committed in the legal process against The Five and will issue a declaration backed by testimonies on sentences, the payment to journalists, the inhuman treatment they receive in prison, and the denial of entry visas to their relatives to visit them.

Meanwhile, the assembly will prepare and approve a plan of action to pressure the Canadian government and the US President so The Five are freed and allowed to return to their homeland.

On Saturday, participants gathered in front of the US consulate in Toronto to demand the immediate and unconditional release of these Cuban fighters.
