HAVANA, Cuba. -
The Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC, by its Spanish acronym) issued a call on Tuesday for the upcoming national partial elections saying that it is necessary to take into account “the enormous potential of valuable women who, everyday, excel for their work in our communities.”

“We, Cubans, are getting ready to again exercise out right to vote established by the Law as an act of genuine participative and socialist democracy. The people’s conscious participation in this process is decisive,” the note adds.

The text explains that it is a reality that prejudices and false concepts still exist in our society limiting the nomination of women “not because people think they are less capable but because they think that women would not have enough time as they are supposed to be in charge of house work.”

“We urge all the people to reflect on this issue in all nomination districts and to bear in mind that women are also among those who can be trusted to represent us,” the note concludes.
