SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba. - An 4.4 earthquake in the Richter scale was felt at 7.09 AM this Thursday in most of the eastern part of Cuba.
In some municipalities of the eastern provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo and Holguín the tremor was perceptible to their inhabitants, but there were not any report of human or material damages, according to the National Seismologic Research Center.
The Geodynamical Observatory of this entity registered the seismic coordinates at the 19.72 North and 74.36 West, some 33 kilometers southeast of the Guantanamo municipality of Imias, at a 10 kilometer depth.
This area is close to Haiti, where last January 12 a 7.0 earthquake devastated the Caribbean nation, with a death toll estimated to be around 200 000 people.
