HAVANA, Cuba. - The best Argentinean boxers started a training season in this city seeking to get in good shape to the ODESUR tournament to be held from March 19th through the 30th in the Colombian city of Medellin.
Coached by the experienced Cuban trainer Sarbelio Fuentes, the squad is made up of
Argentinean national champions Fernando Martínez (51 kg), Ignacio Perrín (57), Brian Castaño (69), Yamil Peralta (91) and Gustavo Vittori (60).
The first three participated in the Milan World Championship last September, attended as well by Maximiliano Sosa (91), another of the athletes training at the Giraldo Cordova Cardin high performance school.
All of them are highly motivated; aware of what training along the Cubans means, said Fuentes after a working session his pupils did with the members of the Caribbean youth team.
These that made the trip are the ones with greater options, though we have to redefine who is going to fight in each division, and also Alberto Melian (54) can be chosen, despite not being here now due to an injury, added Fuentes.
The former Cuban national team praised the willingness to work harder in the training showed by the Argentineans, in spite of their youth and scarce experience against top fighters and said he was satisfied with the welcoming he received in this, his second collaboration mission in the South American nation.
This is not recognition on the personal level, but to the entire Cuban sports movement, added Fuentes. He brought along another three boxers: Junior Zárate (48), Alejandro Romero (54) and Ronan Sánchez (57).
We will be working here till March 3rd and we are planning to have some official combats, he concluded.
