Cape Verdean PM welcomes Cuban health professionals

Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cape Verde, received on Thursday the brigade of 20 Cuban health professionals, who arrived on the eve of that African nation, with the aim of supporting the battle against COVID-19.

The collaborators, members of the "Henry Reeve" International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, will support the Cuban medical brigade already in that country and, together with local specialists, will work to prevent the spread of the pandemic, published Cubaminrex website.

Currently, about 1,200 Cuban physicians are providing their solidarity aid and knowledge in confronting the new coronavirus in nations of Africa, the Americas and Europe.

Cuba and Cape Verde established diplomatic relations more than four decades ago, built on the basis of respect and collaboration in different spheres, including education and health, a link that in recent years has enabled some 700 young people from the African nation to study in the Caribbean island.
Cape Verde is a country located in a volcanic archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa, with a population of more than 524,000 inhabitants on an area of 4,333 square kilometers.
