HAVANA, Cuba. - Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes will offer a concert on May 4 at Havana’s Amadeo Roldan Theater in honor of Frederich Chopin’s 200th birthday.
During the concert, Valdes will play several pieces of the Polish-born pianist and his own Misa Negra (Black Mass), which he played for the first time 40 years ago at the Jamboree Jazz Festival in Poland.
In addition to his usual repertoire, Valdes will also play pieces of his most recent album “Chucho’s Steps.”
Winner of seven Grammy awards, Chucho Valdes is regarded as one of the best pianists of the world and critics place him among today’s top four jazz players.
