The coffee harvest in the mountains of the province of Cienfuegos is progressing well, with more than 550 tons of the 633 tons planned for the current season.
Yoan Sarduy, agriculture delegate in this territory, told ACN that they will close December at 87 percent of the grain harvest, which will allow the last two months of harvest, January-February, to arrive well in advance.
He said that Cienfuegos grows in coffee production by 10 percent compared to last year, a rise maintained in the previous five years, since farmers undertook the renewal of this exportable line.
The official pointed out that the coffee growers organized in the different productive forms and the young people of the Juvenile Army of Work undertake the collection of the aromatic grain.
He said that in the processing plant of the municipality of Cumanayagua they process all the coffee of the three central provinces, a considerable volume and with high quality.
The price of coffee in recent years has risen and has been very stimulating, to the point of impacting on the decline in migration from the mountains to the city, added Sarduy.
