Colombian congresspeople support Cuba commitment to the peace process

A number of senators and members of the House of Representatives, from different parties and political positions in the Colombian Congress recognized Cuba's unquestionable commitment to the peace process in their country.

In a statement addressed to president Ivan Duque and FM Claudia Blum, the congressmen expressed their full support for the role of humanitarian mediator and guarantor developed by Cuba in the process for the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Colombian State and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) and its later implementation, as well as its role in the talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

The document also praises the decision of Ivan Duque's government to maintain and consolidate diplomatic relations with the Caribbean island, and underlines the statement of the South American nation's foreign ministry regarding the non-participation of the Colombian executive in the unjustified decision of the U.S. State Department to include Cuba in the list of countries that do not collaborate in the fight against terrorism.

More than 20 senators, including Antonio Sanguino Paez, Ivan Cepeda Castro, Victoria Sandino Simanca Herrera and Pablo Catatumbo, and more than 10 representatives to the House, such as Omar de Jesus Restrepo Correa, Angela Maria Robledo, Abel David Jaramillo and Maria Jose Pizarro, and others, signed the statement.

Cuba has reiterated its deep conviction that the Colombian people deserve peace and will find ways to achieve it.
