Cuba and Mexico zoos sign cooperation agreement

Cuban and Mexican officials signed two cooperation agreements in this capital, one of the last actions of the XXIV Congress of the Latin American Association of Zoos and Aquariums (ALPZA).

One of them is the scientific-technical exchange and the other of live species of fauna, initialed at the Convention Center in Havana, where the event was held from Tuesday with the presence of 300 professionals from 12 countries.

The documents were signed by Eduardo Padrón Ramos, deputy director of the Cuban Company of Zoos; and his colleague José Ernesto Zazueta Zazueta, president of the Board of Directors of the Association of Zoos, Breeding and Aquariums of Mexico.

Both established the bases, in the first case, for collaboration in scientific research for the conservation and protection of the native and exotic fauna of the two nations, publication and generation of results.

Regarding the second, it is the free exchange of living species of fauna, including shipping, packaging and inspection conditions for a period of two years.

Among the delegates and guests to the meeting were experts in veterinary medicine, biologists, environmental educators and managers in general, personnel related to aquariums and other modalities of wildlife management in captivity.

One of its essential objectives was to promote regional inter-institutional cooperation actions on conservation, sustainability, modern technology development and human capital formation.
