Cuba and Russia Strengthen Bilateral Relations

HAVANA, Cuba. -
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla and his Russian counterpart Serguei Lavrov, signed on Thursday three documents aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Havana and Moscow.

 

One of the documents signed at the headquarters of the Cuban Foreign Ministry in Havana is a plan for political consultation that includes periodic exchanges on bilateral, regional and multilateral topics.

 

A second agreement deals with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the victory over Fascism on May 9, 1945 and its commemoration “has the purpose of contributing to the consolidation of peace ideals and the strengthening of understanding and trust among peoples.”

 

The third accord reflects the willingness of both countries to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of relations between Cuba and the former Soviet Union on May 8th.

 

The two high-ranking diplomats signed the agreements after holding official talks during a Meeting of Political Consultation between the two foreign ministries.

 

Lavrov also heads the Russian delegation to the 19th International Book Fair Cuba 2010 that begins today in Havana and of which Russia is a guest of honor.
