HAVANA, Cuba.- Sprinter Yunidis Castillo earned Cuba to climb in the general standings by winning the gold medal in the 100m T46 category, in the XIV Paralympic Games in London.

Castillo, who had set a world record in the semi-finals (11.95), this time stopped the clocks in a remarkable 12.01, to beat Russia's Nikol Rodomakina (12.49) and China's Wang Yanping (12.89), silver and bronze medallists, respectively.

With this victory, the Cuban delegation climbed to the twelfth position in the general standings, after amassing 13 medals, seven of which are gold, four silver and two bronze.

This is the second title for the Cuban runner in this event, after dominating Saturday's 200 (T46), also with world record of 24.45 seconds.

Also, on Wednesday discus thrower Leonardo Diaz climbed to the top of the podium, in the category F54-55-56, with a shot of 44.63 meters which improved his own previous world record of 44, 36 (F56), thrown at the IV Parapan American Games in Guadalajara in 2011.

Also in the London trackand field events, sprinter Omara Durand continue her journey to the final of the 100 (T13), to be held Thursday-, by winning her semi-final heat with Paralympic record 12.10, a result that confirms her as the main candidate for the title.

Thus, the Cuban delegation exceeds by far the harvest in the 2008 Beijing meeting, when it finished with five gold medals, three silver and six bronze.
