HAVANA, Cuba. - Cuba expressed its concern for the increasing deterioration of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories due to the escalation of the Israeli military offensive over the last few months, and demanded urgent ceasefire.
Cuba’s permanent representative at the UN, Pedro Nuñez, reiterated on Thursday its demand to Israel so it lifts, in an immediate, unconditional and complete way, the cruel and illegal blockade of Gaza and allows free circulation of supplies and permanent access of humanitarian aid.
While speaking in a session of the Security Council, he also specified that all of Israel’s measures and actions aimed at modifying the legal, physical and demographic condition and the institutional structure of the occupied Syrian Golan are null for the Caribbean island and lack legal effect.
A report by the Prensa Latina news agency points out that Nuñez also called to reach a peace accord in the Middle East this year and criticized the passiveness of the Security Council in the face of the actions and policies of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Likewise, he highlighted the increasing international recognition given to the Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 borders.
