Cuba lost first game of the baseball match against USA

Victim of its poor offensive attack, Cuba lost 1-5 to the United States university squad, in the premiere of the usual friendly five-game baseball match between both teams taking place this time in North Carolina, USA.

At the Hickory's LP Frans Stadium, the team coached by Rey Vicente Anglada could barely bat five hits against two pitchers used by Dan McDonnell, manager of the young local side.

The five American runs went to the account of Cuba´s starter and loser Lazaro Blanco, who allowed also six hits in 6.1 innings, with eight strikeouts and five walks.

Cuba´s best hitters were Yoelkis Guibert, who batted 2 for 3, and Yordanis Samon (2 for 4).

The win went to Max Meyer, while reliever Chris McMahon earned the save.

Both teams will hold today the second game at the Charlotte stadium and right-hander Freddy Asiel Alvarez is expected to be Cuba´s starting pitcher.
