Rene Mesa, head of the Construction Ministry (MICONS), said in the Mesa Redonda TV show that the housing program and the local production of materials are prioritized in Cuba given the country's current energy situation.
Mesa noted that even when the work has been adjusted, the material production plan will be met and 3.500 houses will be completed, so that there would be a month of advancement in the program.
Based on the organizational measures adopted, the Ministry saves the country's energy and economic system approximately three gigawatts.
He explained that earthmoving activities, especially asphalt, and the work in the quarries were paralyzed due to the high level of diesel fuel and power generation they need.
Likewise, each cement production plant was analyzed in a particular way, since this is a high energy consuming material.
By paralyzing several activities, the workers of the sector were regrouped in other priority tasks, others are engaged in the maintenance of the industry and technical equipment, as well as in the improvement of infrastructure, the minister added.
As for investments, tourism-related activities have not stopped their effort to complete works at tourist centers in Varadero, Holguin and Trinidad, mainly.
