Oscar Leon Gonzalez, charge d'affaires a.i. of the Cuban permanent mission to the United Nations, regretted the failure of the UN Security Council to end Israel's military aggression and occupation of Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with its resolution 2334 (2016).
According to Cubaminrex website, during a debate on the issue in the Security Council, the Cuban representative rejected the silence of the main UN body while Israel, with impunity, strengthens its expansion policy of illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and threatens to occupy the Jordan Valley and other parts of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The diplomat noted that reiterated US obstruction hinders the Security Council from condemning the escalation of violence and the tragic events in the West Bank since March 30, 2018.
He called attention to the precarious situation of the Palestine Refugee Relief and Works Agency in the Middle East as a result of the withdrawal of United States financial support.
The official also insisted on Cuba's rejection of the so-called "pact of the century", drafted by the current US government, because it does not consider the creation of a Palestinian state, thus ignoring the two-state solution, which has been historically supported by UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other international actors.
Gonzalez expressed Cuba's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian government and people and its support for the admission of Palestine as a full member of United Nations.
