HAVANA, Cuba.- Algeria’s ambassador to Cuba Abdellah Laouari stressed in Havana the firm support given by the Cuban people to his country’s struggle which, he said, can never be forgotten.
The diplomat made his statement during a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Cuban Friendship Institute to honor all those who gave their lives during the struggle that led to the independence of that northern African nation from French colonialism, whose 50th anniversary is marked on July 5, Granma daily newspaper reported.
Ambassador Laouari also praised the historic relations of friendship and solidarity between the Algerian and the Cuban people and addressed current bilateral cooperation in sectors like healthcare, sports and energy. He recalled that Cuban internationalist medical cooperation gave its first steps in Algeria back in 1963.
Meanwhile, the first vice-president of the Cuba-Africa Friendship Association, Dario Urra, stressed the firm position maintained by Algiers in support of Cuba at different international forums.
The ceremony was presided over by Cuban Communist Party Central Committee member Jorge Risquet, deputy foreign minister Marcos Rodriguez, the president of the Cuban-Arab Friendship Association Rodrigo Alvarez Cambras, and the president of the Cuba-Africa Friendship Organization Victor Dreke.
