HAVANA, Cuba. - Cuba’s collaboration programs with Bolivia in the field of health and education stole the limelight of the First World Conference on Climate Change underway in Cochabamba.
Prensa Latina reported that expositions in various stands about a study of disabled people in that country and the post-literacy program —actions in which Cuban experts are highly involved—, was the focus of the attention of participants to the Bolivia forum.
As part of the program of the event, Cuban Maria Isabel Martinez made a presentation about environmental preservation from a public health perspective.
Martinez called attention to the mechanisms that can be used by the government with international support to deal with the effects of climate change on food security, diseases outbreaks, droughts and other natural disasters.
The official delegations from Venezuela, Ecuador, Paraguay and Nicaragua are expected to arrive today, for the second day of the conference.
On related news, members of solidarity-with-Cuba movements took advantage of the international event to distribute postcards with messages demanding the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the United States since more than 11 years.
