Cuban Academy of Sciences Inducts New Foreign Corresponding Members

HAVANA, Cuba.- A group of foreign personalities were recently inducted as Corresponding Members into the Cuban Academy of Sciences during the latest plenary session of this organization, for their contribution to the development and promotion of science in the Caribbean nation.
According to Sergio Pastrana, Secretary of Foreign Relations of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, the list includes Argentinean Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, Secretary of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences of the Vatican; Michael Clegg, Secretary of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences; Dominican Nelson Moreno; and Guatemalan Maria del Carmen Samayoa; among others.
With these recent incorporations, the number of foreign experts holding the title of Corresponding Members of the Cuban Academy of Sciences increased to 26. These scientists —who do not reside in Cuba— come from 16 countries that also include Argentina, Barbados, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Pastrana told ACN that the Executive Council of his organization will soon evaluate the induction of other candidates.
The Cuban Academy of Sciences was founded in 1861 under the name of Royal Academy of Natural, Physical and Medical Sciences.
