Cuban Alba earns the crown in 2020 Turkish Taekwondo Ope

Cuban twice world champion Rafael Alba won the title in the +87 kilograms division in the 2020 Turkish Taekwondo Open, which was attended by 1,509 athletes of the cadet, junior and senior categories in Istanbul, capital of that country.

The global monarch in Puebla, Mexico, 2013, and in Manchester, UK, 2019, beat 21-14 in the final Kazakh Ruslan Zhaparov, runner-up in the Asian Championships 2018.

Alba, who prior to this tournament appeared 12th in the Olympic ranking of +80 kg and 14th in the +87 kg divisions, must advance seats with this victory as according to worldtaekwondo website, each winner of this contest will earn 10 points for the universal ranking, thus improving his chances of qualifying to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
