
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel met today with his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, as part of the working visit he began this today in that Asian country to attend the 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit.
Diaz-Canel described the exchange as "friendly, fraternal and fruitful" for bilateral relations and the development of cooperation in different important sectors of both nations' economies.
"Both countries have the same goal of preserving the unity of NAM and its important role in the international arena, as a mechanism for political agreement among the countries of the South," the Cuban Foreign Ministry wrote on Twitter.

Before the meeting with Aliyev, the Cuban leader lay a wreath in the cemetery where the remains of the Azeri nation's father, Heydar Aliyev, rest.
The NAM meeting will be held on October 25-26, in Baku, under the slogan "Upholding the Bandung principles to ensure an appropriate and concerted response to the challenges of the contemporary world.
Diaz-Canel was welcomed at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov, Cuban Ambassador Alfredo Nieves, as well as by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, who was already attending the meetings prior to the NAM Summit.
