Cuban Deputy PM exchanges with Guatemalan VP

Jorge Luis Tapia, Cuba´s Deputy Prime Minister, held an exchange with Guatemalan Vice President Cesar Guillermo Castillo, with whom he discussed issues of bilateral interest.

As published by the Cuban embassy in Guatemala, Tapia expressed in the meeting the willingness of Cuba "to continue providing its modest experience of cooperation in the health sector and to expand it to other areas of mutual interest."

As part of his work agenda in the Central American nation, Tapia paid tribute to Cuba´s National Hero José Marti on Monday and also met with several local government representatives.

Today, he will have an exchange with members of the Cuban Medical Brigade, as well as with representatives of different sectors of Guatemalan society and solidarity movements with Cuba.

Cuba´s Deputy PM is in the capital of Guatemala since last Sunday to attend the inaugural ceremony of president-elect Alejandro Giammattei, which took place on January 14, Cubaminrex website said.

Cuba and Guatemala established diplomatic relations in 1902 - interrupted in 1960 and resumed in 1998 -, ties that have their greatest expression in the field of health and education.
