Cuban Divers to Finals in Grand Prix in Montreal

HAVANA, Cuba. - Cuban divers José Antonio Guerra and Jeinkler Aguirre qualified to the finals in the men singles platform in the second stage FINA Grand Prix underway in Montreal, Canada.
Guerra, who is training for the coming London Olympic Games, received a 524.10 point qualification, the highest score of the 12 divers that were divided in two groups in the semi-finals, according to the event’s website.
Meanwhile, Aguirre scored 457.60, enough for a second position behind his team-mate in Group A, and now both Cubans will go to the finals along Canadian Riley McCormick (450.00).
In Group B Malaysian Bryan Nickson (483.75) led the scores followed by Brazilian Hugo Parisi (470.50) and Mexican Andrés Villarreal (469.15).
In the women’s event the six finalists are Canadians Emilie Heymans (333.10) and Pamela Ware (327.75), Australian Sharleen Stratton (308.15), German Katia Dieckow (303.90) and Malaysian Cheong Jun Hoong (299.55).
Guerra and Aguirre will compete on Saturday in the 10 meter synchronized platform, which is the speciality where they have the greatest options in London.
