Cuban Duos to break Losing Streak in World Beach Volleyball Championships

The Cuban duo of Sergio Gonzalez and Nivaldo Diaz defeated the pair made up by Daneil Williams-Phillip Marlon, from Trinidad and Tobago, thus achieving its second win in group A of the 2017 World Beach Volleyball Championships, based in Vienna, Austria.

According to the tournament´s website, Cubans won 2-0 (21-17 and 21-14) with highlight for Gonzalez who scored 20 points.

In the other match of Group A, Brazilians Alvaro Morais Filho-Saymon Barbosa beat 2-0 (21-17 and 21-17) Austrians Thomas Kunert and Christoph Dressler.

After these results, Cubans and Brazilians appear on top of this poole with 4 points, two wins and no loss, followed by the local side and Trinidadians.

These two leading pairs face each other tomorrow for the first seat of the group.

The other Cuban men´s duet made up by Karel Peña and Daisel Quesada will rival today Dutch Christian Varenhorst-Marten Van Garderen, while the women´s pair of Lidiannis Echeverria and Leila Martinez will face Colombians Andrea Galindo-Claudia Gorda, in Pooles D and B, in that order, both in search of their first wins, after two outings.

In their last games, Quesada and Peña lost 0-2 (17-21 and 19-21) to Brazilians Oliveira-Loyola, while Echeverria and Martinez were beaten 0-2 (16-21 and 14-21) by Germans Laboureur-Sude.
