HAVANA, CUBA.- The Cuban film “Los Dioses Rotos” (Broken Gods) will be screened Wednesday at the Second Latinuy Film Festival underway in Uruguayan resort of Punta del Este.

This is the first movie from the island presented at this year’s event.

Running until November 28, the Festival will present “Ciudad en Rojo” (City in Red) by Rebeca Chavez and the documentary “El despertar de un sueño” (Waking up from a dream) by Luis Ernesto Doñas about the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and the director of the ballet company Alicia Alonso, reported Prensa Latina news agency.

Los Dioses Rotos, written and directed by Ernesto Daranas, won the public’s prize of last year’s 30th Latin American Film Festival of Havana. The movie is based on the story of famous pimp from Havana Alberto Yarini taken to modern Cuban times.

Films from Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela and the host country are also competing at the Festival whose main purpose is to provide a space for exchange and promotion of Latin American culture and contribute to fostering friendship bonds among Spanish-speaking peoples.

The Festival is held under the auspices of the ministries of Tourism and Culture of Uruguay, the city council of Maldonado and the support of the embassies of participating countries.
