Havana, Cuba.- The albums Chucho steps and 100 sones cubanos by Cuban musicians Chucho Valdes and Edesio Alejandro respectively are two of the nominees to the 2011 Grammy Awards, as officially announced during the Grammy Nomination concert on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
According to a Prensa Latina, the nominees fall within the categories of Best Latin Jazz Album (Chucho Steps) and Best Tropical Latin Album (100 sones cubanos).
Chucho Valdes’s newest album features his band The Afro-Cuban Messengers and it was dedicated to the people of Haiti to whom Valdes donated the money collected from the sales of the CD.
Meanwhile, 100 sones cubanos, a production by Edesio Alejandro, Nelson Estevez and Juan Hidalgo, is a collection of the top 100 sones ever composed in the island. For the production, Edesio Alejandro traveled across the country to look for the right musician or band to play each of the songs in the CDs.
