Cuban VP attends enthronement of Japanese emperor

Roberto Morales Ojeda, Cuban Vice President of the Council of Ministers, attended today the enthronement ceremony of the emperor of Japan, Naruhito.

"The Imperial Palace of Tokyo hosted nearly 200 high-level delegations of dignitaries and representatives from the five continents," the Cuban embassy to Tokyo posted on Twitter.

The enthronement ceremony of the 126th Japanese Emperor, inheritor of the world's oldest royal house, constitutes the European equivalent of the coronation of a monarch.

Naruhito, proclaimed emperor on May 1, replaces his father Akihito, now considered Emperor Emeritus, who abdicated in his favor one day earlier and whose reign began in 1990.

Cuban VP held on Monday several meetings and exchanges with personalities of the Japanese government, including the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Keisuke Suzuki, and participated in the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
