Cubans Lidiannis Echeverria and Leila Martinez tightly lost 1-2 (19-21, 21-16 and 15-17) to Canadians Heather Bansley-Brandie Wilkerson in the round of 16 of the FIVB 2017 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Vienna, Austria.
Echeverria and Martinez started the tournament with two consecutive defeats mainly to their inexperience, but then they managed to get two wins in a row which earned them a ticket to the next stage.
On Wednesday, in the round of 32, they beat 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) Dutch Madeleine Meppelink and Sophie van Gestel.
This can be considered a good performance by the Caribbean women´s pair as this was their debut in global contests and they had balance of three wins and 3 losses against much more seasoned couples.
