HAVANA, Cuba.- Renowned Cuban author Nancy Morejon attended in Berlin the presentation of a project aimed at setting a plaque representing each country member of the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) on a centrally located street in this capital city.
The plaques would be placed on the Friedrichstrasse Street as part of the “Visionaries for the World” project, said Borges Vonge heading the initiative.
Each plaque would have a phrase of an intellectual of every country, in German, English and the local language of the country, and will serve as search reference for Berlin’s schools.
The Cuba plaque would bear the phrase by National Poet Nicolas Guillen: “A hand that holds strong must be shaken fast, either Chinese, black, white, or red, with our hand held out.”
Nancy Morejon, who was accompanied by the cultural attaché at the Cuban embassy in Germany, Hector Corcho, took the occasion to express her appreciation for the initiative and exchange views on the life and work of Nicolas Guillen, and particularly on the verse chosen by the jury for the project.
The plaque is expected to be provisionally displayed in 2013.
