Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko received Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez in a special ceremony at the Palace of Independence.
After the national anthems, the review of the troops, the reverence before the Belarusian flag as a sign of respect and the official photo for the press, both statesmen held official conversations in company of their respective delegations.
Lukashenko referred to the last 25 years "of the history of heroic revolutionary Cuba" - which have coincided with his political life - and considered an honor to have met Fidel, Raul and Diaz-Canel. He affirmed that Cuba is a loyal partner, a friend, and we will continue to advocate for greater cooperation. Our economies do not compete, they do not meddle in each other, we only have to coordinate the joint steps, set the rules and follow them.
For his part, Diaz-Canel stressed: "Belarus is one of the first countries that I visit as President of Cuba; it indicates the priority we give to our relations”. I am also the holder of a strong and warm hug from the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Army General Raul Castro Ruz.
Díaz-Canel is accompanied by the vice president of the Council of Ministers, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz; the head of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment,
Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, and the head of Agriculture, Gustavo Rodriguez Rollero; the president of the Central Bank of Cuba, Irma Martinez Castrillon; the president of BioCubaFarma Company, Eduardo Martinez Diaz; and the vice ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Health, Rogelio Sierra Diaz and Marcia Cobas Ruiz, respectively.
Cuba and Belarus have maintained uninterrupted relations since 1992. A political dialogue has been established at the highest level and both governments give high priority to bilateral ties.
