Exhibition Dedicated to Alicia Alonso Inaugurated in Pinar del Río

Pinar del Río.- The Cuban prima ballerina, Alicia Alonso, inaugurated the Imágenes Salvadas photographic exhibition that is made up of 50 photographs in which it is shown the different facets on the private and artistic life of the director of the National Ballet of Cuba.

Renowned Cuban and foreign photographers are participating in the exhibition that shows some of her unpublished images, according to Luis Alberto Alonso, curator of the aforementioned exhibition.

´Some of those photographs belong to the National Dance Museum ´s private collections while the other ones were donated by the own photographers who are taking part in the exhibition, as well as the presence of renowned photographers such as Alberto Korda, Liborio Noval Jorge Valiente, Nancy Reyes, Ernesto Fernández, among other outstanding Cuban and foreign photographers.´ Luis Alberto said.

´The exhibition was divided into two sections: One of them opened to the public at the scientific veterinary council of that province which has on display more private photos, including a photo of Alicia when she was aged eight years of age and another one when she was aged fifteen and was with her family, including during her honeymoon with Pedro Simón, among others.´ Luis Alberto Alonso explained.

In addition, Luis Alberto Alonso said: ´the photos exhibited at the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba show Alicia´s professional life and some of her photographs show some body´s positions in which she resembles a model while being accompanied by world-class personalities of the cultural and artistic world.´

As for Alicia Alonso, the exhibition of unpublished photos constituted a deep surprise.

´I have felt deeply surprise as I did not know that those photos still existed given that they were taken and never published in newspapers let alone exhibited to the public. Therefore, you are watching a novel exhibition.´ Alicia Alonso pointed out.
A stamp and its style were especially issued for the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Alicia Alonso´s artistic debut.

The photographic exhibition was first shown to the Cuban public at the Wilfredo Lam cultural center and it was later on display in San Antonio de los Baños town, Artemisa and Las Tunas provinces, while it is planned to present it in other Cuban provinces. By Alina Cabrera Domínguez
