GUAMA, Santiago de Cuba.- Experts on renewable sources of energy considered as positive on Wednesday in this city the example of Cuba in the use of these alternatives in an efficient and sustainable way, for the economic and social benefit of the population.
Enrico Turrino, founding member of Eurosolar and honorary member of CubaSolar, considered that the island is a model other countries should adopt in order to make an adequate use of clean sources of energy for the benefit of people and for the protection of the environment.
In this regard, he highlighted the solarization projects carried out in the municipalities of Bartolome Maso and Guama, in the eastern provinces of Granma and Santiago de Cuba, where thermal, photoelectric, wind, water and biomass sources are used for the sustainable development of these communities, he emphasized.
With respect to the international panorama, Federico Butera, nuclear physicist of the Technical College of Milan, Italy, pointed out that it’s often an election of death, due to the use of concentrated sources of energy like fossil and nuclear energies, which produce strong contamination and waste of resources.
He also agreed that there are enough natural resources to satisfy energy demands in the world, and described their generalization as an important way to achieve the freedom of the peoples and technological sovereignty.
Some 200 delegates from 13 countries are taking part in the 10th CubaSolar 2012 International Workshop, which will run until Friday in the coastal municipality of Guama, about 60 kilometers from the city of Santiago de Cuba.
