First International Biennial of Cuban Radio Starts Today

The First International Biennial of Radio, scheduled for August 20-24, begins today in Havana as part of the celebrations of the 90th anniversary of Cuban Radio. A number of creators and specialists of the media are getting together to participate in diverse activities related to the past, present and future of broadcasting in Cuba.
The first day of the Biennial includes official registration of the participants, an exhibition by the Cuban artist Maykel Herrera and the presentation of some books on the Cuban radio that have been published in the last five years.
The Portal of the Cuban Radio will be reporting on details of the event through the web site of the International Radio Biennial.
On August 21, Guillermo Pavón, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT) will give the welcoming address. Then, Dr. Miguel Barnet, president of the National of Writers and Artists of Cuba will give a speech as a Cuban writer, poet, novelist, essayist and ethnologist.
Other activities will be carried out during the International Radio Biennial such as drama production workshop at the Benny Moré Studio of Radio Progreso station, and a workshop on music shows on the Radio at the La Zorra y el Cuervo Jazz Club, which will be given by Manolo Luis Hernandez, director of "A buena hora" radio show on the Radio Taino station.
Dr. Raul Garces, outstanding communicator and professor at the Havana University, will speak at the International Radio Biennial on the global media context while Dr. Ana Teresa Badia will give a workshop on Radio Journalism.
Artists, intellectuals, creators of the radio in Cuba will participate in this meeting, which intends to become an event for the exchange of experiences between different generations of radio workers from Cuba and Latin America.
