HAVANA, Cuba.- We will have an even stronger Women’s organization closely linked to its bases, since we trust that the Federation will implement the transformations that safeguard the achievements of Socialism, said Cuban Vice-president Jose Ramon Machado Ventura as he presided over the National Plenary Session of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC).
Machado Ventura stressed the importance of identifying “those things that are no longer useful and need to be changed.” He recognized the unity of the organization and its following up on the accords reached by the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party.
FMC general secretary and member of the Communist Party Central Committee, Yolanda Ferrer, admitted that “the resistance to changing the current mindset is the worst enemy of our time.”
“Today’s women are the result of the Revolution and the Women’s Federation, so our organization must change in order to meet its interests: orienting the families, achieving full equality of genre and defending the Revolution and Socialism.” she said.
The plenary session was held Thursday in Havana, in the presence of the member of the Cuban Communist Party Secretariat, Olga Lidia Tapia and Central Committee member Argelio Amador.
The meeting agreed to send Venezuelan women a letter supporting President Hugo Chavez in upcoming presidential elections in the South American country.
