HAVANA, Cuba.- The International Contest of Underwater Photography, Fotosub 2012, held for the first time in Cayo Largo del Sur, in the Isle of Youth, wound up on Thursday with the handing over of prizes in each category.

Some 30 competitors from Italy, Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Russia, Chile, Cuba and Canada participated in the contest, held at the Playa Blanca Hotel.

A total of 17 prizes were handed over during the closing ceremony, with acknowledgements for the first three places in each category, as well as for the participant wining the largest amount of prizes (absolute champion), the trophy of which was made by artist Ivan Abrahantes, with materials like silver, marble and acrylic.

Tourists at hotels and other tourist facilities in Cayo Largo del Sur were able to watch the competitions and the closing ceremony on television, according to the Contest’s Web site, thanks to special services arranged for the occasion.
