Four Cuban judokas will attend the World Championship Open 2017 running in Marrakech, Morocco, from November 11 to 12.
Andres Taño, methodologist of the Cuban National Judo Commission, told ACN that the Olympic and world champion Idalys Ortiz is part of the quartet but will not compete because she will only receive a recognition there.
The competitors for the Caribbean island will be the woman Eliannis Aguilar and men Andy Granda and Alex Garcia.
The tournament will be attended by 56 judokas from 28 countries in both sexes: 16 women and 40 men.
The list published by the International Judo Federation (IJF) includes names of aces like French Teddy Riner (+100 kg), nine-time world champion and twice Olympic monarch.
Other illustrious figures such as Greek Ilias Iliadis, Russian Alexander Mikhaylin, Georgian Varlam Liparteliani, Japanese Takeshi Ojitani, Hungarian Barna Bor and French Cyrille Maret will also be present in the men´s event.
Meanwhile, the women´s event includes Japanese Sarah Asahina (+ 78 kg), leader of the world ranking and runner-up in the last WC in Budapest 2017, while Azeri Iryna Kindzerska and German Jasmin Kuelbs also stand out for their latest international results.
