Ghana’s President Receives Top Cuban Communist Party Official Jorge Risquet

HAVANA, Cuba.- Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama received on Friday, in the capital Accra, visiting member of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee Jorge Risquet Valdes, who conveyed greetings from Cuban President Raul Castro.
The Ghanaian President and his guest addressed bilateral relations between Cuba and the African country since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 up to date, and they recalled the historic meeting between Fidel Castro and former Ghanaian president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, at New York’s Teresa Hotel, during United Nations sessions in 1960, when Ghana and Cuba decided to establish diplomatic relations.
Jorge Risquet is in Ghana to participate in an International Seminar on the 103rd anniversary of the birthday of Kwame Nkrumah, top figure of the struggle of sub-Saharan African nations for independence.
Risquet is scheduled to lecture on the contribution by the African leader to the anti-imperialist fight in the continent, Granma newspaper reported on Friday.
The member of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee was already received by vice-president Paa Amissah-Arthur, who accompanied him to lay a wreath to the mausoleum treasuring the mortal remains of Nkrumah. Risquet also paid tribute to former Ghanaian president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, who recently passed away.
