Bruno Rodriguez and S.M. Krishna, foreign minister of Cuba and India, respectively, expressed on Friday in this capital their interest in boosting bilateral cooperation bonds, which already cover the fields of sports, energy, biotechnology, computing and technical and professional training in various areas.
Krishna stated that India assesses the help given by Cuba to his country in the sports sector highly, and took advantage of the opportunity to express his condolences for the recent death of three-times world and Olympic boxing champion Teofilo Stevenson.
While welcoming the visitor, Rodriguez expressed the island’s appreciation for the permanent solidarity of New Delhi throughout 50 years of relations, and the constant denunciation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US on Cuba.
He recalled that the two countries share stances on the need to democratize the United Nations, and support the inclusion of India as permanent member of that organization’s Security Council.
During his stay, which will end on Sunday, Krishna will meet with other Cuban authorities and will tour centers of historic and cultural interest.
