Cienfuegos, Cuba.-  For the happiness and joy in this Cuban province, it has an infant mortality rate of 2, 3 by every child who was born alive and zero maternal death, which constitutes the lowest result in this sense in the local history.

´During the current year, the residents from Cienfuegos province observe with a great care and prevention all the local cases. Besides, the work is carried out systematically by saving lives, ´Doctor Lisber Aguiar Lezcano, chief of the Maternal Infantile Program, said.

There are five out of the eight municipalities, which have registered a zero infant mortality rate such as Palmira, Cruces, Aguada and Rodas, as well as the Turquino plan in the Guamuhaya mountain range with stable results.

Cienfuegos has registered up to 1730 births during this year, and in comparison with the previous one, the province has kept a similar birthrate given the children´s health care attention is a priority, as well as or those children who are suffering from chronic diseases.

´It was in a similar period that the infant mortality rate was of 6, 28 during the last year. Therefore, there are fewer children who pass away which is a factor that enables to have a better vision of the program in order to conclude the year 2012 by achieving historical numbers and results.’ doctor Lisber Aguiar pointed out.

´Regarding those four late children, they are regarded and linked to infectious processes given that two of them were suffering from chronic diseases like the congenital malformation. Therefore, It is an accumulative result.´ Lisber Aguiar added.

´The work and health- care attention carried out by the family doctor is essential in all the local clinics where the Infant Maternal Program is carried out personally, thus reducing the low-weigh parameter of 3,7 which is very linked to the premature one.´ Lisber Aguiar pointed out.

The family doctor has a fewer number of cases of pregnant women and children still on the milk diet, as well as the responsibility to carrying out a strict and continuous monitoring process in the local maternity and the pediatric hospital.

As Lisber Aguiar points out, ´the maternity has spent two years increasing its actions and has achieved a positive work and result. Therefore, there have not been and death in the maternal hospital while the aforementioned health care and free program has been carried out and imporved.´ Lisber Aguiar.
