HAVAN, Cuba.- The 8th International Congress on Agricultural Law will open this Tuesday with the attendance of over 140 delegates from 10 countries at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, in Havana city.

The Congress will focus its debate on cooperativism, an economic model which is a tool for sustainable development for the structured growth of agricultural production that promotes social equity and increasing the incomes of producers.

At the meeting in Havana personalities connected with that branch of law, as judges, lawyers, notaries, registrars, university professors and students will lead the debates.

Roy Ramón Philippón, president of the Cuban Society of Agricultural Law, told ACN news agency that is confirmed the participation of Dr. Franco Benussi (Italy), former director of the European Patent Office in Munich who will deliver a lecture on the cooperative movement in China.

For three days the participants will describe the experiences on the work of these forms of production and services in fields related to marketing, insurance and credit.

Mirtha Magdalena Puebla, vice president of the Cuban Society of Agricultural Law, told reporters that the event is part of the activities taking place on the island for the International Year of Cooperatives, enacted by the United Nations.

The event is sponsored by the Faculty of Law at the University of Havana, the Agricultural University of Havana, the American Committee for Agricultural Law and the ministries of Agriculture and Justice, among others.
