International Ethnomedicine Congress opens in Havana

The 28th International Congress of the Italian-Latin American Society of Ethnomedicine (SILAE 2019) will be opened today in Havana with representatives from some 30 countries, Rodolfo Arencibia, president of the National Technical Group of Medicinal Plants and of the organizing committee, stated.

The event, held at the Havana Convention Center, will be attended by renowned Cuban and foreign experts, who on the first day will give keynote conferences and develop symposiums and workshops on priority issues of national and international impact.

Under the slogan "Science and Nature for Life," the meeting aims to show the experiences in the development of medicinal plants in recent years, based on strategies of the World Health Organization and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Arencibia told ACN.

The congress will begin with the inauguration of the associated exhibition fair Natural 2019, where 35 stands will exhibit products and services derived from the results in technologies, projects and experiences of the fields to be dealt with in SILAE 2019.

Today´s program includes conferences on the strategy of the Ministry of Agriculture for the development of medicinal plants in Cuba; the current international, regional and national state of the use of natural products; and on the Registry and regulatory standards, as well as lectures on clinical tests with phytomedicines and new design requirements; and the strategy for the development of natural products in BioCubaFarma.
