The assembly of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday ratified the decision to suspend the International Boxing Association (AIBA) from organizing the competition in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
The IOC will take over the Olympic boxing due to economic, administrative and arbitration irregularities that undermine the good development of the competition.
The decision transcended during the 134th session of IOC members where participants decided, by exception, that the National Olympic Committees will select the athletes for the Olympics and not the federations of each country, as the Olympic Charter stipulates.
The IOC will hold four qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Games, in countries that have experiences on these events and will do so out of the AIBA.
The venues will be located in China (Asia and Oceania continent), Dakar (Africa), London (Europe) and Buenos Aires (Latin America), following the excellent Argentine experience in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
