The historian office of Camagüey city has scheduled a varied scientific and cultural program to celebrate the 505 years of the foundation of the former Santa María del Puerto del Principe Village.
The XIII International Symposium of the former Santa María del Puerto Príncipe Village entitled ´El Manejo y Gestíon de Ciudades´ (The Management of the cities) of which its core of the themes is about the public policies and the social responsibility in the historic and heritage cities.
There will be 30 related researches and results of six Cuban provinces and there will be specialists from Mexico and the United States of America attending.
María Isabel Carmenates, who is the vice president of the Organizing committee, pointed out the wide variety of themes and the varied participation which enrich the point of views, taking into account that the related good practices and experiences will be presented by the professionals of the architecture, arts and history, including the local self-employed workers who are linked to the building or public space´s preservation and their services rendered in heritage sites.
“This event is the most important of its type being carried out in the nation and the first one as part of the local Semana de la Cultura Camagüeyana (Camaguey´s cultural-celebration week) due to its transcendence of the preservation and management of that heritage.” She said.
“The novelty in this event is about the participation of students of the Architecture and Heritage Management university careers that is being studied in the universities of Havana city and Camagüey only. Those careers include the specialties in Museology, the Management of Historic centers and Archeology and they will get the conferences which will be delivered the National Prize winner of Cultural Heritage 2018 Omar López and the National Prize of Architecture and the winner of the National Architecture prize, Irán Millán Cuétara, and that is something especial due to the related interest that we have about the professional training of the young people.” She highlighted.
Ph,D. Eusebio Leal, who is the historian of the historian of Havana city and the figure in charge of the symposium on February 1 st, along with the president of the National Cultural Heritage (CNPC) and the National Comission of Monuments, Gladys Collazo Usallán and the professor, Gina Rey Rodríguez, who is the National Architecture prize 2015 for her lifetime´s work, will be among the lecturers.
“At the same time with the development of the Symposium, the national meeting of the local net of offices of the Curator and Historian of Cuba will be carried out to discuss which would the new offices’ structure of which their representatives will show the results of the previous event carried out in Cienfuegos city.”Rodríguez Barreras, who is the principal of the local OHCC, pointed out.
As part of that same context, it will also be presented the campaign entitled ´Ciudad que vivo, Ciudad que soy´ (The city I live, the City I am) which encourages the citizen behavior, the respect and the care of the Camagüey city.
Mailet Padilla Paneca, who is the specialist on communication of the OHCC, pointed out that the campaign´s strategic purpose is to stress the need about preserving the environment of the city and its civilization as essential conditions for the increase of the life quality and the individual and collective wellbeing.
Announced by the local Municipal People´s Power Municipal Assembly and the Office of the Historian of the Camagüey city each year, the aforementioned symposium event will held sessions and it will include the local Semana de la Cultura Camagüeyana to celebrate the 505 years of Foundation of the former Santa María del Puerto Principe Village.
