Just a few days ago, we had talked on the First Juegos escolares del AlBA (literally ALBA Scholar Games) which will be carried during the upcoming month of November in Cochabamba, Bolivia, along with the fact that this competition would be highly beneficial for the better training of all our local sportsmen in view of the second Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China in the year 2014.

In addition, we had said that some of the participants attending to both competitions would probably compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It is then likely that we would be able to watch in advance all the ongoing sport development and process of both the London and Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games together for young and adults categories this time.

During such a long time, the subsequent year to the Olympic Games had not had a competition of varied sports disciplines for the peoples of our Latin America; however, that situation has already been solved with the existence of the regional Juegos del AlBA competition.

Just as was agreed in Caracas by the ministers of sports of the integrationist bloc just before the beginning of the fourth aforementioned competition, Ecuador will organizes the fifth competitions of the Juegos de la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Latin America) during the year 2013.

Ecuadorian president José Francisco Ceballos has also talked about the decision in relation to stimulate an Intercultural Sports Festival for the local Indigenous Peoples as part of the political willingness to help that sector.

The first meeting, which included the participation of the ministries of sports from the ALBA bloc, was precisely the one in which was agreed to hold in Bolivia the abovementioned regional competition with the participation of students who are aged 15 and 17 through nine sports disciplines.

The Olympic cycle, which is now better organized for our nations, includes in the month of November the student call in Cochabamba for the all ages Juegos del Alba competition during the next year, the XXI Central American and Caribbean Sports Games competition from Veracruz, in Mexico that is being carefully organized so that it could be the best of its kind in history, the II Youth Olympic Games, The Pan American competition in Toronto, Canada in the year 2015 and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In other words, the entire region will have the possibilities to be much better trained and the results should bring the positive evolution that has been observed during the last years. By Diego Méndez
