The connexions of live leads sometimes to unexpected events that demonstrate that we are not isolated beings, on the contrary, we are part of process that continue through a constant relation and evolution.
This is the third time in a year that a local zunzún bird had made its nets at the Arsenio Pastor Aguilera’s courtyard, who is a neighbour that lives in the Alamar district, but he was never lucky enough to see the fact that any of them could survive; however, he could make it when he was not already expecting it.
By the end of the last year, he realized that the aforementioned bird, which is the smallest bird in the world, was flying about a sunflower in the courtyard and trying hard to extract the nectar of the flowers unsuccessfully.
´I had the idea to put some honey in a small vessel so that it could take it and a few days later I could watch by feeling even deeply surprise that the zunzún bird was making a small nest over one of the branches that were part of a rose plant.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera said.
´That type of unusual approach to me was gradually increasing from that moment on; besides, that bird was looking for me in my courtyard when I was not really expecting that from happening, then, as it is typical in them, the bird was flying truly fast around me while it was searching for the honey that I was then always supplying to that bird.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera added.
´From that moment on, I realized that bird was not only coming frequently but also that it had left three eggs every two or three months approximately. The two first eggs were destroyed by some black birds; however, the third egg not only could survive but also and its bird could fly and leave the nest.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera said.
´On the other hand, I realized that it was the same bird given that during one of its visits I marked it with nail painting on one of its paws to recognize that bird in the future which I could confirm later on.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera commented.
According to the experts on those types of birds, the zunzún bird was also known as a fly bird due to its size. It can fly up to 20 hours continuously with a surprising speed of fly that reaches the 114 kilometres an hour, as well as it can take the nectar from the flowers by using a long and fine beak.
´This time, the abovementioned bird built a small nest over an avocado tree and some fragile branches that were at certain distance from the floor so that the dogs and cats could not reach it; therefore, I covered the nest with nylon to protect it from the rains, however, I realised that the little bird was not there during certain morning and when I tried to find it, then I realized that the nest had fallen and the young pigeon was on the floor and had even one eye hit.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera revealed.
´I picked it up and took it inside the house and simply made another nest made of cotton that I placed over the table that is near of my kitchen, then I saw its mother to fly inside the house while she was apparently looking for the young pigeon, then he replied to her and I realized that she wanted to feed him and I put the little pigeon on the palm of my hand. Later on, I went to the courtyard and approximately twenty minutes later, his zunzún mother fed him on my palm. It was right from that moment on that the young pigeon was fed three or four times a day that way.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera added.
´I have no words to describe what I felt in relation to that type of experience given that I felt a real joy as if I was hugging a newly-born child with the consent of its mother that was trusting on me while she was feeding its young pigeon with extreme care until he learn how to fly.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera commented.
Although the zunzún birds have a small size, these birds are considered to have a great courage given they have been seen attacking the local sijú bird and the also local and even bigger aura tiñosa birds when they are flying near their nests.
´To get to see the way the young pigeon liked the coffee beverage was something unusual to me, I knew it given one of those days that I was drinking coffee, he raised its little beak and I put some coffee in a spoon and I could watch the way he was putting its beak into it.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera said.
´I am feeling like a privileged person in relation to having achieved that type of approach with such a special creature like it is the zunzún bird that many people describe as a living jewel. Now I am waiting for its return to help her with her young pigeons once again. Indeed, I would help her given that it is a female zunzún bird and the fact that it would be the best way I could give in return the fortune that was granted to me by the Mother Nature.´ Arsenio Pastor Aguilera concluded.
