Powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits Cuba and the Caribbean

A 7.3-magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale shook several countries in the Caribbean on Monday afternoon, from Jamaica to Cuba and Honduras.

Meteorological agencies from the United States and some Caribbean countries report that the epicenter of the quake was about 130 km north of Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The tremor was felt in some Caribbean nations, including the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Haiti and Cuba, according to the source.

In Cuba, it was felt in the central and eastern provinces, from Cienfuegos to Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo; according to early reports of the event and experts from the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS by its Spanish acronym) confirm there is no tsunami risk for Cuba.
